Philly punk legends The Dead Milkmen will on Aug. 24 perform at “Rally for Rock: A Benefit for Music Education” to raise funds for local nonprofit Rock to the Future.

“We’re excited to include the local music scene in this benefit event,” founding director Jessica Craft said in a statement.

“We’re featuring some of the top musicians in Philadelphia and it’s free – so there’s no reason not to attend!”

The event, slated for noon at Liberty Lands Park at North Third and Poplar streets, will also feature performances from Andrew Lipke, the West Philadelphia Orchestra, Conversations with Enemies, Break it Up!, You Do You and the Rock to the Future Student House Band.

There will also be craft vendors, food and music activities for children of all ages, as well as a raffle featuring items like a signed baseball from Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins.

All proceeds will go toward Rock to the Future, which raises awareness about the need for music education in Philadelphia while providing free music education programs to underserved city youth.

Rock to the Future’s programs focus on contemporary instruments and music to nurture passion and creativity, support academic achievement and improve self-esteem among children.

The organization stated 100 percent of its eighth grade students were this past year accepted into Philadelphia’s best high schools.

Sponsors of the event include the East Kensington Neighbors Association, the Third Federal Bank and Honest Tea.
