Former NFL player Luke Petitgout charged with assaulting wife
Former New York Giants offensive tackle Luke Petitgout surrendered to the NYPD today and is facing charges of assault, a law enforcement official said.
Petitgout allegedly shoved his wife out of their parked car about 5:30 a.m. Friday after the couple had spent the night out celebrating their wedding anniversary.
Police said the couple got into an argument after Petitgout’s wife accused him of infidelity. Petitgout is accused of grabbing his wife’s purse and hitting her in the head with it repeatedly before shoving her out of the car.
Police said his wife took a taxi to the 1st Precinct stationhouse and reported the assault. She was taken to Downtown Beekman Hospital and treated for cuts, bumps and bruises to her left hand, wrist and forearm.
Petitgout played college football at Notre Dame before getting drafted by the New York Giants in 1999. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle is retired.
