Police ID gunman in deadly Poconos municipal hall shooting
Police have identified the man who opened fire during a municipal meeting in the Poconos on Monday night, killing three, as Rockne Newell, 59.
Newell is accused of using a long gun with a scope and a handgun in the deadly attack on Ross Township Municipal Building in Saylorsburg, Monroe County, about 7:20 p.m., 6ABC Action News reports.
Newell reportedly had a long-running dispute with township officials over the condition of his property.
Two men were able to tackle Newell and wrestle the handgun away from him to prevent further carnage. One of the men turned Newell’s gun on him and shot him, according to the report.
