Man extradited from Honduras to face charges in W. Philly homicide

Police on Thursday arrested a man suspected of committing a homicide last year in the Eastwick section of West Philadelphia after he was extradited from Honduras to face charges.

Investigators announced Miguel Gonzalez, 38, was arrested in Corinto, Omoa Cortes Honduras by the FBI Fugitive Task Force and turned over to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit.

Gonzalez, originally of the 2500 block of Lee Street, will face charges in connection with the May 31, 2012 slaying of Aaron Hayes Sr., 52, who was found shortly before 5 a.m. shot in the head on the 7100 block of Elmwood Avenue.

Desiree Arnett Hicks, 56, of the 7100 block of Elmwood Avenue, was on July 19, 2012 arrested and charged with murder, conspiracy and criminal solicitation to commit murder in connection with the same crime.

Her trial is set to open April 14, 2014.

Gonzalez was on Thursday charged with murder, criminal conspiracy and firearms offenses.

He is being held without bail on the charges.
