Police: Delaware man arrested for seventh DUI
Delaware State Police on Saturday arrested a Georgetown man for allegedly committing his seventh DUI, investigators announced Sunday.
Police said a trooper on routine patrol around 6 p.m. saw a red Dodge Dakota in the left turn lane of North DuPont Boulevard blow a red light and turn onto North Bedford Street.
The officer within a quarter mile of observing the alleged infraction performed a traffic stop on the pickup truck, who police said was being driven by Darren McGrath, 59.
Authorities said the trooper noticed a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle and proceeding with a DUI investigation.
McGrath was taken back to Troop 4 in Georgetown, where he was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended and revoked license, failure to stop at a red light and DUI.
Police said a computer check revealed the DUI charge was McGrath’s seventh – he was convicted of the same offense March 14, 2009; Sept. 9, 2008; May 22, 2007; Aug. 10, 2004; Apr. 7, 1998 and Apr. 28 1998.
McGrath was arraigned Saturday and jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,600 cash bail.
