Billie Jean King endorses Christine Quinn for mayor
Christine Quinn received a resounding endorsement from tennis legend Billie Jean King on the first day of the U.S. Open.
King has won multiple championship titles in her career and in 2006, the U.S. Tennis Association named renamed the National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, for her.
King lauded Quinn as an “effective progressive,” a label Quinn supporters have been using since the competition between her camp and that of opponent Bill de Blasio has ramped up in recent days.
Quinn in turn praised King as a “trailblazer in American culture and sports” and said King is someone she looks up to.
“She has devoted her life to breaking down barriers and fighting for equality,” Quinn said. “And her endorsement means so much.”
