Just a week before classes begin in the Fall 2013 semester, Framingham State University students are finding themselves without a place to live.

About 40 students who had already signed leases for an off-campus apartment building recently received eviction notices, informing them they had to vacate the premises in 30 days, WCVB reports.

Framingham State bought the building months ago, and intends to tear it down to make space for parking lots.

One FSU student who is currently living in the building told MetroWest Daily News that ”a lot of the students now are just considering withdrawing” from the upcoming semester, seeing as they purposely chose to live so close to campus because they didn’t have transportation otherwise.

“We thought we were going to have to deal with a handful of students. We are now having to deal with more than we anticipated, but having said that, we are going to work with them and help them find new housing,” Dale Hamel, Framingham State executive president, told WCVB.

Several of the students have confronted the school’s administration about the issue, and were offered a spot on the on-campus housing waiting list. But for upperclassmen who have done their time in the dorms, that isn’t very appealing.

The students will meet with the school on Tuesday.
