Upper Darby ‘beast’ arrested for violating girl, 4, with a spoon

An Upper Darby man allegedly violated a 4-year-old girl with a spoon, police said.

Antoine Palmer, 23, of the 500 block of Woodcliffe Road, was charged and then arraigned Friday after doctors at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia confirmed there had been some type of penetration with a foreign object.

The girl came home on Aug. 27 and was bleeding from her vagina, Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. She was apparently in Palmer’s care prior to this, he said, as he regularly picks up the girl from day care and babysits until the mother returns home from work.

The girl was taken to the hospital for evaluation and it was determined that “some type of object was stuffed in her vagina,” according to Chitwood. He said the spoon had been used in some type of slicing motion.

The girl then positively identified Palmer as the culprit to police.

“It’s very, very difficult when you have to deal with a 4-year-old,” he said, “because you have to handle it very cautiously and respectfully.”

Palmer was charged with aggravated indecent assault and corruption of a minor, among others.

He was detained at Upper County Jail, with his bail set at $250,000. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 6.

Chitwood called his behavior “animalistic.”

“To violate a 4-year-old,” he said. “He is a beast.”
