A man was shot in his wrist during an altercation in an apparent incident of road rage in Southwest Philadelphia late Wednesday.

The shooting happened about 11:35 p.m. at 64th Street and Grays Avenue, according to police. A 37-year-old man was pistol-whipped, punched in his face shot in his wrist.

A suspect was taken into custody, but no charges had been filed as of this morning.

The shooting suspect, a 48-year-old man, told police he shot the man only after he had been attacked. Police recovered a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun from the suspect.

The 48-year-old man told police the other man crashed into his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. He followed the vehicle to 64th Street and Grays Avenue, where he claims the 37-year-old man attacked him.

The shooting victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was last reported to be in stable condition with a single gunshot wound.
