Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski is expected to announced today that he is running for governor of Pennsylvania in 2014.

Pawlowski, 48, a democrat who has served as the Lehigh Valley city’s mayor since 2005, plans to announce his bid on the Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC.

“This is not a decision that was easily made,” Pawlowski said in a news release obtained by the The Morning Call of Allentown, “but as mayor of the third largest city in the state and president of the Pennsylvania Municipal League, I have seen first-hand the damage that has been done to our Commonwealth over the past four years under the current administration. I cannot sit idly by and let our state continue to suffer.”

Pawlowski, who has also expressed plans to run for a third term as Allentown mayor, thew his name into an already crowded hat.

Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, York businessman Tom Wolf, former Department of Environmental Protection chiefs Katie McGinty and John Hanger and State Treasurer Rob McCord have expressed interest in the position currently occupied by Gov. Tom Corbett.
