Police investigate hazing at Chelmsford football camp
Police are investigating reports of hazing at a Chelmsford High School football camp in Moultonboro, N.H., last month.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity would not specify the exact nature of the alleged hazing, but they did tell the Lowell Sun that it was of “a very juvenile nature.”
That source admitted that some of the allegations are sexual in nature, but that the alleged victim or victims were all fully clothed.
Police Chief James Murphy told the Sun that the department has taken proper action against those who were involved upon being notified of the crime late Monday night.
“I honestly don’t know a lot of the details, not that I’d release them anyway,” Murphy said. “We’re just looking into this to make sure nothing has happened down here.”
School superintendent Frank Tiano could not immediately be reached for comment by the Sun, and Athletic Director Moreau said he could not comment and referred all questions to Tiano.
Just last week, three Somerville High School soccer players were accused of raping other students while attending a team retreat in Western Massachusetts. The victims, who are freshmen, were reportedly assaulted with broomsticks.
Galileo Mondol, 17, is pleading not guilty to charges of rape and assault. The two other suspects’ names were not released because they are underage.
