Newly formed Independence Hall Tea Party affiliate the Independence Hall Foundation will on Tuesday protest the National Constitution Center’s selection of Hillary Clinton as the 2013 Liberty Medal recipient by staging its own counter-awards ceremony.

The Independence Hall Foundation will hold a press conference on the Independence Mall lawn at 4:30 p.m. to award its own Defender of Liberty Medal to “an American or group of Americans who have made grave sacrifices to uphold and defend the United States Constitution and the ideals of liberty which it represents,” according to a release.

The foundation will also criticize conservative Constitution Center Board Chairman Jeb Bush for presenting the honor to Clinton, claiming the former secretary of state is undeserving due to her handling of last year’s attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

“From the very beginning, Ms. Clinton and the Obama administration lied about the attack, at first blaming it on an American video then, after that cover was proven false, stonewalling on the truth,” Independence Hall Foundation founder Teri Adams said in a statement.

“There is an ongoing congressional investigation regarding the failed response of the Obama administration and Ms. Clinton to the attack and its aftermath.

“In addition, neither Ms. Clinton nor the administration appears to be actively engaged in seeking justice for the victims, the families of the victims and the American people.”

Bush, in an interview with The Tampa Bay Times, defended his awarding of the medal to Clinton, saying in a statement, “The National Constitution Center is recognizing Secretary Clinton with the 2013 Liberty Medal for her lifelong career in public service, especially her ongoing advocacy efforts on behalf of women and girls around the globe.

“While Secretary Clinton and I disagree on many issues, we certainly agree on the importance of civic engagement.”

Speakers slated for tonight’s Independence Hall Foundation event include former Highlands, N.J., Mayor Anna Little, Sgt. Robert Mansfield and Delaware County Patriots co-founder Mary Ellen Jones.

The event will be followed by a 5 p.m. prayer vigil led by Rev. Todd Johnson of First Emmanuel Baptist Church.
