NYPD officers shoot two bystanders during pursuit of man near Times Square

Chaos erupted near Times Square Saturday night when two NYPD cops shot at a man who pretended to point a gun at them and struck two innocent bystanders instead.

Glenn Broadnax, 35, was being pursued by the officers after acting “erratically,” weaving in and out of car traffic at the intersection of 8th Avenue and W. 42nd Street around 9:35 p.m.

One officer observed Broadnax, a Brooklyn resident, attempting to be hit by a car and tried to take him into custody.

Broadnax ran away from the officer and, when more cops arrived and attempted to corral him, he put his hand into his pocket, pretending when he removed his hand that it was a gun.

One officer fired one shot and another officer shot twice, both missing Broadnax.

Instead, two of the three shots struck bystanders on the northeast corner of the intersection.

A 54-year-old woman was hit in the right knee and another bullet grazed a 35-year-old woman’s left butt cheek.

The 54-year-old was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. The 35-year-old was taken to Roosevelt Hospital in stable condition.

Broadnax was eventually taken down with a Taser fired by a police sergeant at the scene.

He was taken to Bellevue and labeled as “emotionally disturbed.” He is in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

Broadnax was arrested and charged Sunday morning with menacing, obstructing governmental administration, riot, criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
