UPDATE: The driver of the vehicle that struck and killed a 13-year-old boy in Hopkinton was a 16-year-old girl. Middlesex District Attorney’s office spokeswoman Stephanie Guyotte told WCVB the victim’s name is Shayne Desroches of Hopkinton.

Metro’s original story is below.

A 13-year-old boy was killed while attempting to cross the road on his bike in Hopkinton on Wednesday night.

Hopkinton Police said the incident happened about 4:47 p.m. on Hayden Rowe Street and Route 85.

The accident involved a teenage boy, whose identity has not yet been revealed, and a single vehicle.

“The side mirror was hanging off, front end damage and the windshield was broken,” an unidentified woman who lives nearby told WBZ. “The bicycle was a little bit banged up.”

The boy was pronounced dead at Milford Regional Medical Center.

While the name and hometown of the victim have not been released, the principal of Hopkinton Middle School, Alan Keller, sent an email out to parents notifying them of the death, as well as offering counseling to any students who need it.

The accident is being investigated by officers of the Hopkinton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

No charges have been filed.
