Street closures and traffic advisories during the UN General Assembly

Traffic near Midtown Manhattan will become slow as streets are closed for the General Assembly of the United Nations this week.

Traffic this week in Manhattan will be even more of a pain as global leaders and diplomats take over First Avenue for the General Assembly of the United Nations.

President Barack Obama will also be in attendance and police have closed several streets to accommodate his motorcade along with the other delegations.

These streets will be closed until 10 p.m. Tuesday:

49th Street from Lexington Avenue to Park Avenue
50th Street from Lexington Avenue to Park Avenue

And trucks won’t be able to access these streets during this time:

Park Avenue from 48th Street to 52nd Street
Lexington Avenue 48th Street to 52nd Street

Here’s a breakdown of all the closures:

Traffic closures and advisories for Monday Sept. 23 to Friday Sept. 27

Closed to traffic:

  • First Avenue from 42nd Street to 48th Street. (The tunnel underpass from 41st Street to 48 Street will remain open passenger cars. Trucks and other large vehicles will not be able to access until the end of each day’s session.)
  • 44th Street from First Avenue to Second Avenue
  • 45th Street from First Avenue to Second Avenue
  • 46th Street from First Avenue to Second Avenue

Closed to traffic starting at 5 a.m. (but will reopen each evening after the day’s session):

  • 42nd Street from the FDR Drive to Second Avenue
  • 42nd Street Exit and Entrance Ramps of the FDR Drive

Intermittent closures (for only Monday and Tuesday):

  • On FDR Drive: Southbound at 63rd Street, Northbound at South Ferry
  • 50th Street from Park Avenue to First Avenue
  • First Avenue from 42nd Street to 50th Street

One traffic lane only for emergency vehicles:

  • 42nd Street from First Avenue to Fifth Avenue
  • 57th Street from Second Avenue to Fifth Avenue
  • Second   Avenue from 41st Street to 57th Street
