Alleged witness claims Aaron Hernandez pulled trigger in 2012 South End shooting

An unidentified man who claims to have survived a deadly drive-by shooting last year in Boston’s South End told Fox 25 that he believes former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, now charged with murder in a separate incident, was the shooter.

The man, 26, said in an exclusive interview with the news channel last night that Hernandez, 23, “just came up and started firing for no reason at all” at him and his friends as they pulled up to a light on Shamut Avenue.

“We never had any trouble. We were not those kind of people. We were just having fun,” he told the news outlet.

He said he heard someone shout, “What up, Negroes?” before the shooting.

“Things happened so fast. I was trying to defend myself,” the witness said. “They were shooting everywhere inside the car, front to back. They just came to kill. That’s it.”

Both Danny Abreu, in the driver’s seat, and Safiro Furtado, next to him, were killed.

No charges have been brought in connection with the double murder, however law enforcement officials have said that the investigation is ongoing.

Hernandez was charged in June with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player whose bullet-riddled body was found in an industrial area near Hernandez’s home in North Attleborough, Mass. He has pleaded not guilty, and is being held without bail.
