Undercover cop allegedly involved in biker gang assault appears in court

The undercover detective outed for his presence at the Sept. 29 biker gang assault on Alexian Lien appeared in Manhattan criminal court today for the first time since his arrest yesterday evening.

Wojciech Brasczcok, 32, is a ten-year veteran on the police force. According to court documents, he was not only present at the assault at West 178th Street, he actually participated by smashing the rear window of Lien’s SUV while Lien’s wife and 2-year-old daughter were inside.

Prosecutors say video footage shows Brasczcok wearing a black vest with “Front Line Soldiers” and “New Rochelle, N.Y.” written on the back and motorcycle gloves. They also matched the red motorcycle this biker was seen riding with a bike registered in Brasczcok’s name.

In the video, Brasczcok can be seen bashing in the rear window with his gloved fist, according to court documents. He also kicked the passenger side of the SUV while Lien’s wife and baby daughter were inside.

The criminal complaint notes that Brasczcok was not among the five or six bikers who crowded around Lien after he had been pulled from his car and thrown onto the ground.

Authorities maintain video evidence does exist showing those five or six bikers kicking and stomping on Lien as he lay prone behind his car, until pedestrians intervened. The bikers took off before police arrived, though a witness trailed some of the to a Shell gas station a few streets away.

Brasczcok left the courthouse with a black hooded sweatshirt pulled far down over his eyes and his face covered by a black cloth. He got into a waiting black Mercedes and took off.

A new civilian suspect, Clint Caldwell, was also arraigned in Manhattan criminal court on Wednesday.

Caldwell reported confirmed to investigators that he was the biker in a black helmet, navy blue sweatshirt, dark pants and black and red motorcycle gloves depicted in a photo from the scene of the assault.

Prosecutors said Caldwell is one of the bikers seen on video rushing toward the SUV as another biker, identified by authorities as 37-year-old Reginald Chance, smashed Lien’s driver’s side window with his helmet.

Caldwell then used his gloved hand to pull glass from the window frame and reached inside the SUV, according to court documents.

But both Caldwell’s attorney, Raymond Colon, and Brasczcok’s attorney, John Arlia insist that there is no video showing their clients doing any of these things.

Both men are charged with gang assault, rioting, and criminal mischief for alleged damage to Lien’s Range Rover. Their bail was set at $100,000 cash or $150,000 fully-secured bond.

Both men are expected to appear in court again on Friday.

Police released four new photos on Tuesday of people wanted for questioning in connection with the biker assault. Brasczcok and Caldwell’s arrests on Tuesday night were the sixth and seventh arrests made in connection with this assault.

One Tuesday night, Manhattan District Attorney spokeswoman Erin Duggan said the D.A.’s office and the NYPD will continue to cull through evidence to find all of the bikers involved in the attack.

“In the last few days, serious charges have been brought against several defendants in last Sunday’s attack,” Duggan said. “As we said from the beginning of the investigation, the NYPD and the District Attorney’s Office are methodically scrutinizing the evidence to build the strongest possible cases in our continuing effort to hold accountable those responsible.”

The D.A.’s office dropped charges against the first individual arrested in this case, who police had said was one of the two men initially seen charging at Lien’s car when he was stopped on West 178th Street.
