The search for a Bensalem man who went missing in the Delaware River while kayaking Tuesday continued into Wednesday evening, but officials now fear the worst.

Officials have called off the search for Xiang “Billy” He, who was last seen about 1 p.m. Tuesday near the boat ramp off River Road in Bensalem’s Torresdale Manor section, 6ABC Action News reports. A press release issued by Bensalem Township Police Department this morning notes He is “believed to have perished in the Delaware River.”

He, 38, used the kayak to get to his sailboat, which was moored in the river. It is believed he went missing as he was returning to the river’s banks on the kayak after securing his boat. His wife reported him missing about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Marine rescue units from the New Jersey State Police, Philadelphia Police Department, Union Fire Co. and Croydon Fire Co. searched the river on Wednesday but found nothing.
