Bloomberg appreciates high heels at a party for someone who makes high heels

Mayor Michael Bloomberg apparently succumbed once again to his tendency to be a little bit too candid around reporters at posh events.

In a New Yorker write-up of a ritzy party for the memoir of the co-founder of Jimmy Choo, the mayor is quoted expressing his appreciation for heels — and women.

“I like women, and I think that they look stunning in high heels — not that they look bad without high heels,” the mayor reportedly said. “I wouldn’t criticize anybody.”

The mayor caught heat several months ago for when a January New York Magazine profile of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn included an anecdote quoting the Speaker joking that the mayor was going to yell at her for not wearing heels.

At the book party, the mayor reportedly continued, “But, if I were a woman, I think I would wear high heels.”

The reporter apparently asked the mayor, who is not particularly tall, if he “regretted” that men can’t really wear heels.

The mayor reportedly replied: “I don’t care if a woman is taller than me, with or without heels. I just like women.”

Bloomberg was also quoted in the New York Magazine article admiring a woman at a party with the words, “Look at the ass on her.” He later denied having made the comment.
