Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Irving Fryar and his mother were indicted in New Jersey on Wednesday in connection with an alleged mortgage fraud scheme.

Fryar, 51, and his mother, Allene McGhee, 72, both of Burlington County, are accused of attempting to steal more than $690,000 through five home equity loans obtained over a six-day period in 2009 using McGhee’s Willingboro home as collateral, NJ.com reports.

In obtaining the five loans, Fryar and McGhee allegedly failed to tell each bank they approached about the other loans they had been granted. The five-time Pro Bowl wideout received or spent about $200,000, and the pair made only a few payments on four loans before the banks wrote off the losses, acting New Jersey Attorney General John Hoffman said.

Fryar played for the Eagles from 1996 through 1998. He also played for the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins before retiring after the 2000 season. He is currently head coach of the Robbinsville High School football team, but has been suspended without pay as a result of the indictment.
