Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis will leave New England’s largest police department next month to begin consulting for a convicted criminal advocacy group.

Davis, who announced his resignation as head of the Boston Police Department in September, will become a senior consultant at Community Resources for Justice, the organization said on Tuesday.

The Boston-based organization helps men and women released from jail transition back into society.

Davis is expected to being working for the organization in early November.

“As he explores the various options that will be available to him, we are very excited to have Ed on our team,” said Scott Harshbarger, chair of the CRJ board and former Massachusetts attorney general. “The combination of his valuable experience, insight, and his network of fellow professionals will help to advance our mission of improving public safety both locally and nationally.”
