A Salem mom driving under the influence of alcohol allegedly drove her SUV onto train tracks in Beverly, as her 5-year-old son begged for her to stop from the backseat.

Beverly police confirmed to the Boston Herald that Michelle Monique LeClair, 46,  slammed her 1999 Ford Explorer into train signals and fencing at Beverly Depot shortly before 10 p.m. Friday with her son in the backseat. Her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

LeClair’s 5-year-old son told police he begged his mother to get off the train tracks, even after he got out of the car. She “was still trying to drive the vehicle as the engine was revving and the tires were spinning” and “had no concept that she actually drove one-half mile down the railroad tracks,” police told the Herald.

The incident was reported to the RMV and the Department of Children Family Services, which said in a statement: “The Department of Children and Families received a 51A report regarding this incident and is conducting an investigation. This child is not currently in the custody of the department. DCF has had prior involvement with this family.”

LeClair pleaded not guilty in Salem District Court on Tuesday to charges of drunken driving, reckless endangerment of a child and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
