The man who killed three people then turned his gun on himself in East Williamsburg late last night was angry over being kicked out of a band, police said.

The shooter has been identified by police as Aliakbar, who also apparently went by the name Raefe Akhbar.

Police said Aliakbar was in an underground rock band with the victims called The Yellow Dogs. On the band’s Twitter page, they describe themselves as “post-punk/dance-punk band” from the Iranian capital of Tehran “living in Brooklyn at the moment.” Their music was reportedly “deemed illegal” in Iran, prompting their move to the U.S.

They played a show just a few weeks ago on Oct. 23 at Brooklyn Bowl. Colleagues and friends have already taken to Twitter and Facebook to mourn the lost musicians.

Police said about a year ago, the other bandmates kicked Aliakbar out of the group. According to a preliminary investigation, the dispute seems to have come about because they discovered he was selling off the band’s equipment.

Police believe that Aliakbar stormed through the rooms of 318 Maujer St. firing round after round at his former bandmates.

Police said Sorough Farazmand, 27, was found dead in a second-floor bedroom, with a gunshot wound to his chest. Arash Farazmand, age unknown but estimated to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was found dead in a third-floor bedroom with a head wound. The third victim, 35-year-old Ali Eskandarian, was found in a living room on the third floor with a head wound.

The youngest band member, 22-year-old Sasan Sadeghpouroskou, was the only survivor of the shooting spree. He was shot twice in the right arm and elbow. He came to the U.S. just a year and a half ago.

Police discovered Aliakbar on the roof of the building, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. A .308 assault rifle, which police believe to be the murder weapon, was found on his chest. Two live rounds and one spent shell casing lay near his body.
