Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is bringing baseball to MTV.

The Sox star, MTV Networks and Major League Baseball said Monday they are collaborating on a 30-episode series that melds pop culture and baseball, according to the Associated Press.

The show will most likely air on MTV2 due to its large male viewership, and will be filmed at the MLB Fan Cave in New York City.

Executives at MTV reportedly became interested in working with Ortiz after seeing a popular MLB Fan Cave video where Ortiz walks through New York City asking Yankees fans for hugs.

The head of MTV, Stephen Friedman, says the project will link viewers with the athletes they admire.

“We’re always looking for ways to connect our audience with the stars they revere and want a closer connection to,” he said.

MLB Executive Vice President of Business Tim Brosnan told the AP that Ortiz has probably done more for the Fan Cave than any other player. Part of his role in executive producing the show will be luring other baseball stars to participate.

But as for getting his fellow athletes to make appearances on the show, Ortiz isn’t too concerned.

“Players want to be musicians and musicians want to be players,” he told the Associated Press. “So it’s going to be pretty easy to get my friends in baseball to have fun on MTV.”
