A large marijuana growing operation was found inside a Roxbury home after fire crews responded there to put out a fire.

Police are investigating the apparent large, illegal operation that included 176 marijuana plants.

Fire crews were called to 10 Wyoming St. at about 11 p.m. Friday for a report of a fire. When firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting from the home.

While on the scene, fire crews discovered numerous amounts of drug paraphernalia throughout the house and eventually discovered the plants in the basement and second floors.

The fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.

The two-alarm fire was so intense that commanders ordered firefighters out of the building. One firefighter was injured when he had to jump from the roof to a second-floor porch. He was taken to a hospital for a leg injury. Another firefighter was treated for debris in an eye.

The fire department said that it appeared the fire started outside the home and reached inside. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Authorities said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. One apartment was undergoing renovations and the other was unoccupied.

Boston police detectives are investigating. Anyone with information can call 617-343-4275.
