AIDS Memorial Quilt on display this week at CCNY
Panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be displayed at the City College of New York this week to commemorate World AIDS Day, which was Sunday.
The quilt began in 1987 when San Franciscans began memorializing those who died from AIDS on 3-by-6-foot panels. More than 48,000 panels, many commemorating the life of someone lost to AIDS, have now been sewn together by loved ones.
The NAMES Project Foundation is the custodian of the quilt.
Six hundred panels will be on display at the college this week, 120 at the Center for Worker Education and 480 in the main campus’ Great Hall.
