The girlfriend of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is accused of lying to a grand jury 29 times when questioned about his alleged involvement in the murder of 27-year-old Boston man, Odin Lloyd.

According to court papers filed this week, Shayanna Jenkins, 24, allegedly lied when she testified before a grand jury in August.

Hernandez, 23, was charged with Lloyd’s murder days into the investigation. He pleaded not guilty to six criminal counts, including murder and weapons charges tied to Lloyd’s death, and is being held without bail.

Assistant District Attorney Patrick Bomberg claims that Jenkins lied about remembering conversations with Hernandez. When Hernandez told her to “get rid of” a large box that may have contained evidence the day after Lloyd was murdered, Jenkins did so but was unable to recall where she’d disposed of it.

“She told the grand jury she dumped it in a Dumpster, but she couldn’t tell anybody where it was,” Bomberg said.

Jenkins’ defense team claims there is no proof that she ever lied, besides the prosecution believing so.
