City saves big bucks in energy-saving incentive program
The city received $413,000 from NJM energy company for cutting energy usage.
Nineteen city facilities turned off air conditioning and escalators on July 19 and Sept. 11 to reduce capacity costs and qualify for this incentive program, said Andrew Stober, of the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities.
“Every dollar that we’re spending on utilities is a dollar we’re not spending on the programs that people really care about, whether its infratstrucutre or social services or public safety,” Stober said.
The incentive program involved the participation of the Philadelphia Water Department, the Free Library, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Philadelphia Family Court and Criminal Justice Center.
