Cops: Car vandalized in South Boston over parking space saver

Snow emergency or no snow emergency, you don’t mess with space savers in South Boston. 

Boston police are looking for a man who allegedly shot nails into the tires of a car that was parked in a space occupied by a saw horse.

Officers were called to West 4th Street at about 5 p.m. Sunday for a report of vandalism to a car, Boston police said. A man told police he tried to park his car in front of his home when he saw a saw horse in a parking spot. He said he didn’t know the saw horse was there to hold the spot, so he moved it and parked his car.

A witness told police that he saw a man shoot nails into the tires of the car, take the saw horse and flee toward West Broadway. The witness also said a blue pickup truck with a company name printed on it had been parked in the spot for the last couple of days, police said.

Because the city did not declare a snow emergency or parking ban, space savers could not be used. The city allows people to use space savers for up to 48 hours after a snow emergency has been lifted.

The witness described the suspect as a white man with facial hair, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 180 pounds and about 40 years old. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood.

Officers searched the area, but could not find the man or the truck.
