Metro’s staff of editors and reporters are out in the city every day, on social media, scouring online news and talking to the people. It’s allowed us to bring to our readers stories either found on Metro first or ones you won’t read anywhere else at all.

Here are some highlights:

On Oct. 21, Metro Philadelphia ran a story about a former Army infantryman who is battling a drug addiction. One of our city desk reporters, Tommy Rowan, spent several days with Matt Hallman and wrote a two-page spread about his journey to sobriety.

Metro also had several news feature stories such as “Kiss and Tweet” on March 4 — a piece about the guys behind Temple Makeouts, a Twitter account no undergraduate wanted to end up on.

For the Oct. 16 issue, City Editor Christina Paciolla talked to Amanda Leve, the Archbishop Ryan student who wanted to wrestle on the boys’ team but wasn’t allowed to per archdiocese rules.

Metro also went on a “Hunt for Jimbo” as we talked to graffiti artists in our March 19 edition about the famous Fishtown tagger.

In August, former Metro city desk reporter Alex Wigglesworth sat down with the family of Don Ly, a popular fruit cart vendor who was found stabbed to death outside of his South Philadelphia home.

We can’t wait to bring you more of the same in 2014.
