The African American Museum in Philadelphia will be open for free on Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Day, for the eighth year running.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with Citizen’s Bank,” said Adrian Whaley, curator of education and public programming at the Museum. “They’re helping to make the museum free and accessible. It’s going to be a great day.”

Citizen’s Bank donated $25,000 to offer free admission and cultural activities at the museum on Martin Luther King Day.

Located at 7th and Arch streets, the museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Martin Luther King Day.

Special kids’ activities planned for that day include a morning scavenger hunt through the museum, with the reward being a copy of the famed picture book “Martin’s Big Words,” by Doreen Rappaport and Bryan Collier.

In the afternoon, there will be a hip program teaching the history of civil rights through breakdance, Whaley said.

Guests are also invited to bring canned food and gently used children’s books for donations.
