Delaware State Police arrested a Wilmington, Del. woman Saturday for stealing two purses from senior citizens.

Elise Clark, 27, of the 1100 block of Lore Avenue, allegedly lifted purses from the shopping carts of an 81-year-old woman and a 72-year-old woman in two separate supermarkets, state police said.

On Monday, Jan. 6, the woman allegedly entered the Acme Supermarket at 1901 Concord Pike in the Fairfax Shopping Center around 4 p.m. As the 81-year-old woman grabbed an item off a shelf, Clark removed the woman’s purse from the cart. Clark then used the credit cards to buy various items at local businesses, state police said.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the woman walked into the Pathmark at 3901 Lancaster Pike around 5 p.m. As the 72-year-old woman grabbed milk from the dairy case, Clark lifted her purse. The woman attempted to approach Clark, who then ran from the store. Clark later used a credit card in local businesses, according to state police.

After a tip, state police zeroed in on Clark’s apartment, and after it busted through, found her in the bathroom and in possession of nine bags of heroin, a gram of crack cocaine, three Seroquel pills, and drug paraphernalia.

She was charged with two counts of theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 or older, seven counts of unlawful use of credit card, attempted unlawful use of credit card, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute in lieu of $31,694 bail.
