A popular mini-chain of pregnancy centers announced their closing on Tuesday evening, causing an uproar among Boston-area parents.

Isis Parenting, which has locations in Back Bay, Arlington, Needham and Hanover, took to Facebook to announce their closing on Tuesday evening. ”With heavy hearts, we announce the extremely sad news that Isis Parenting must close. Effective immediately, no classes or phone consults will take place.”

The closing appears to be extremely abrupt, and many Boston parents who attended classes or received pregnancy consulting expressed their disappointment over its closing. On the Isis Facebook page, many parents posted messages of support for the company and declared how influential it was on their parenting experience.

Julie Mancini of Waltham attended Isis during her first pregnancy, and says their classes served as an important introduction to parenting.

“I signed up for the Great Beginnings class that day,” Julie told the Metro. “The weekly class was a joyous time to tune out any distractions and just enjoy your baby, and new moms in the same boat that you were. The ‘homework’ they assigned was to do the unthinkable… go out to lunch (in public!) after class with all the other mamas and babies. It was a happy camaraderie and support system during a crazy new phase in our lives, and I still talk to the other mothers almost 3 years later.”

A cause for the closing has yet to be announced, but according to the company’s Facebook page, Isis is “taking steps to communicate with all affected class participants over the coming days and we thank the Isis community in advance for your patience and understanding during this very difficult time.”

Additional information was provided on the Isis website, where company CEO Heather Coughlin said in a letter that “Isis is not just another business closing its doors in the midst of headwinds.”

Isis Parenting was founded in Brookline in 2003, and also has several locations in Georgia and Texas.
