Loud noise causes false report of Manhattan explosion
A loud noise near a Manhattan apartment building Monday afternoon caused false reports of a small explosion, officials said.
Police and fire officials initially responded to reports of an explosion just after noon near the intersection of Lexington Avenue and East 26th Street, but later said there had been no explosion.
Police said there are still conflicting reports about what caused the noise, but that it may have been caused by the popping of an overinflated tire on a handy truck.
No injuries were immediately reported.
