Mattress causes fatal accident in Burlington
A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon after a mattress came off another car on the highway, causing a crash.
Massachusetts State Police said the woman was traveling southbound on I-95 just south of Burlington Mall when the mattress, which was strapped to another vehicle, flew off a car, causing two other vehicles to crash.
State troopers were called to the two-vehicle crash about 3 p.m. near Exit 32 in Burlington, near the Lexington line. The fatality was a 56-year-old woman, who was driving one of the cars that crashed. The driver of the second vehicle, a truck, was injured but is expected to survive.
Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle that was hauling the mattress.
“We have witnesses who saw them stop about a mile south of the accident re-securing their load, and then they continued to drive on 95 southbound,” Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Joachim said, according to WBZ. “They had to [know] because they stopped to re-secure the load.”
