George Zimmerman boxing match canceled… for good?

A day after a Philly boxing promoter washed his gloves of a controversial celebrity boxing match including George Zimmerman, the British entrepreneur who took over the fight has also dropped the idea.

“In light of Trayvon Martin Foundation not accepting monies that would be raised, http://FilmOn.com is cancelling the event,” Alki David tweeted yesterday.

David made the announcement hours after he announced over the telephone at a press conference in Broomall that he was taking the reins of the Zimmerman fight from Philly boxing promoter Damon Feldman, the mastermind behind Celebrity Boxing who announced that Zimmerman would box rapper DMX last week, to mostly reactions of outrage nationwide.

Feldman backed out of organizing the match, stating that he “did not want to work with a killer,” on Tuesday.

Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin, 17, in February 2012 after a controversial altercation. He was acquitted of murder charges.

David had planned a fight club where numerous high-profile opponents would attack Zimmerman, with proceeds going to the the Trayvon Martin Foundation established by Martin’s family members, TMZ reported.

After Martin’s family informed David that they were not interested in receiving the money, he decided to cancel the match.

As Feldman already canceled the match once before it was picked up by David, it remains to be seen if this boxing match is truly canceled.
