The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into reports that someone pointed a laser at the cockpits of Delta Air Lines and JetBlue planes as they passed over the Boston-area and Providence Tuesday night, disturbing airline pilots.

The FAA narrowed down the source of the laser to Forte Park in Newton, the AP reported. It is unclear if the incidents are related.

The Associated Press reported that Newton police and authorities at Logan International Airport were also investigating a report that a man pointed a green laser at drivers Tuesday night, two hours before the incident with the airplanes.

The Delta flight was allegedly lit near Logan around 8:30 p.m. as it headed to Atlanta, and the JetBlue flight was allegedly illuminated 15 minutes later, as it passed over Providence en route to  Richmond, Virginia.

No arrests have been made, but the responsible party could face local and federal charges, law enforcement said.

Earlier this month, the FBI initiated a new program that cracked down on people who aim lasers at airplanes, saying it causes a serious safety risk and offering $10,000 to anyone who can offer information that leads to an arrest.

“Many high-powered lasers can completely incapacitate pilots who are trying to fly safely to their destinations and may be carrying hundreds of passengers. Unfortunately, reported incidents of lasers aimed at aircraft are steadily increasing,” the FAA said in a statement on its website.
