Maine man accused of biting MBTA cop in the neck
A Maine man is accused of sinking his teeth into a Transit Police officer’s neck at Chinatown MBTA Station Wednesday night after allegedly assaulting another man.
Transit Police said they responded to the station around 7 p.m. for a report of a random, unprovoked assault. The victim told police his alleged attacker was nearby.
The suspect, Rueben Thomas, 32 of Houlton, Maine, was seen smoking a cigarette in the entrance to the station. When officers approached him, he immediately became combative and hostile, police said, and refused to comply with their requests.
Thomas then assumed a “fighting stance” toward the officers, police said.
When police tried to remove Thomas from the entrance way, a “violent struggle ensued” in which Thomas allegedly bit one of the officers on his neck, causing injury. Thomas was eventually subdued, and arrested.
The officer, who was not named, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Thomas was due in court Thursday on various assault charges.
