Woman leaves her baby alone in car while she drinks at Hingham bar
Police in Hingham received quite a shock on Wednesday morning when they observed a baby left alone in a car.
An officer arrived at Stars on the Hingham Harbor, an area bar, after restaurant management contacted them about a woman who had been drinking at the bar.
The young mother had the baby by her side when she ordered her first drink shortly before 10 a.m., but when she requested another, the bartender refused to serve her. Police told Fox 25 that the 21-year-old woman then walked out with the child and returned about 10 minutes later by herself.
Sensing something was wrong, restaurant management alert police, who arrived on the scene and looked through the car window. They saw a baby in its car seat with a blanket draped over it.
“I could see a baby seat, a green blanket over the baby seat and I knew then, I’m like ‘something isn’t right,’ so I called police,” Officer Joe King told FOX 25.
When police confronted the woman, she became loud and unruly.
Luckily, the child was awake in the car and appeared to be in good condition despite being out in the cold for about 20 minutes. The child was still transported to the hospital for evaluation, and the DCF was notified of the incident.
The woman was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment to a child and disturbing the peace. She appeared in court on Thursday, but her identity will not be revealed in an effort to protect the child.
