Police probe West Philly abduction, robbery of 80-year-old woman

Philadelphia police are seeking the public’s help identifying a man and a woman who abducted an 80-year-old woman in West Philly and forced the victim to withdraw $8,000 from her bank account.

The crime occurred around noon Monday, according to police.

Police released surveillance images of the male suspect Tuesday night. The suspects were driving a green Saturn SUV bearing New Mexico license plates.

The male suspect is short, black with a dark complexion and 40 to 50 years old. He was wearing a dark cap, dark blazer and white shirt.

Police described the female suspect as tall, black and of a medium complexion. She was wearing a dark-colored wig and dark clothing.

The victim told police she was walking in the area of 55th and Market streets when the suspects approached her and told her they had money for her. Sensing something was fishy, the victim tried to walk away, but the duo pushed her into the SUV, drove her to the Citizens Bank at  Penrose Plaza, located at 2900 Island Ave. in Southwest Philadelphia, and forced her to withdraw the money from her account.

The male suspect told a bank employee that the victim needed the money to pay for her sister’s funeral. After getting the money from the bank, the suspects dropped the woman off at 57th and Chestnut streets.

Police urge anyone with information about the suspects to contact  Southwest Detectives Division at 215-686-3183/3184.
