Boy, 11, shot while playing hoops in North Philadelphia
An 11-year-old boy was caught in the crossfire of a shootout in North Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon while playing basketball with his friends.
The shooting happened about 4 p.m. at Gratz and Oxford streets, near Meade Elementary School, 6ABC Action News reported.
The boy was shot in his right hip, according to the report, and was rushed by Philadelphia police to Temple University Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
The shooting happened about 36 hours after an 11-year-old girl was shot and killed by her 2-year-old brother inside their home in Philadelphia’s Mantua neighborhood. The boy, left alone with other children, was playing with a .357 Magnum handgun.
The 11-year-old boy was later transferred to to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in critical condition.
Police found at least 15 shell casings at the shooting scene.
