Police are on the lookout for a 25-year-old man who, along with his younger brother, is suspected of shooting an 11-year-old boy in North Philadelphia on Sunday, police said.

Marcelus Temple and his 16-year-old brother, police said, opened fire on the corner of Gratz and Oxford Streets around 4 p.m. on April 6, according to a news release.

Police said the two men were aiming for a member of a group who beat up the 16-year-old earlier on April 6.

An 11-year-old boy, who was playing basketball on a side street, was hit by a stray bullet and was found with a wound to the side following the shootout. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. He was later taken to Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he was placed in stable condition.

At a news conference today police said Temple’s brother, the 16-year-old male, was taken into police custody on Friday for his involvement in the shooting, according to multiple media reports, but Temple remains at large.

Temple is described as a 5-foot-8-inch tall black man who weighs about 195 pounds. While his primary address is unknown he is known to frequent the 1900 block of Susquehanna Avenue and the 1500 block of Gratz Street, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
