East Village woman fights off rape attempt from suspect she woke to find standing on her bed: NYPD
An East Village woman fought off an attempted rapist that she woke to find standing on her bed over the weekend, police said.
The 32-year-old woman woke around 3 a.m. Saturday and found the man on her bed in her apartment near East 6th Street and Avenue B.
The man sexually assaulted the woman, trying to rape her, but fled after a struggle, police said.
No one else was in the apartment during the assault.
Police said the man broke into the woman’s apartment. Investigators believe he may have tried several doors in her building before finding an unlocked one.
Cops are hoping a sketch of the suspect will help them catch him. He is described as Hispanic, in his 20s, 5-foot-4 and weighing 160 pounds.
Police ask anyone with information about the assault to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), submit a tip online or text 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577.
