The Newton Pooch Hotel will host a doggy speed-dating event Saturday to pair potential pet owners with about a dozen adoption-ready dogs from Last Hope K9 Rescue.

At the Pet and Play Adoption Event, dog lovers will be asked to fill out a “dating profile” before getting some one-on-one play time with their prospective pooch partners.

“It’s kind of a new concept,” said Tara Lenaghan, Pooch Hotel general manager. “[Last Hope] was so happy to provide the dogs, and people are really looking forward to it. With love in the air anything can happen.”

The Boston-based shelter rescues between 15 and 20 dogs each week from high-kill shelters in Arkansas, and doesn’t discriminate on the basis of age, breed and pre-existing medical conditions, according to Last Hope Founder Rachele Huelsman.

Last Hope hosts monthly adoption events around the Boston-area, but this is the first time organizers are testing the dating-game theme.

“If it’s a success, we hope to hold another one around Valentine’s Day,” Huelsman said.

About a dozen rescued dogs will be up for adoption Saturday, including:

  • Blanche: A young, high energy red heeler
  • Hercules: A 90-pound American bulldog
  • Chipping: An older, well-trained lab-hound mix

Answers pet parents give in their questionnaire will help adoption coordinators match them with the perfect pooch. The event will be held at 1 p.m. at the Pooch Hotel in Newton.
