Update: Billionaire investor George Soros said late Tuesday that the re-election of President Barack Obama will open “the door for a more sensible politics.”  Soros, who has contributed mightily to Democratic causes, told Reuters: “I’m delighted that President Obama has won. The American electorate has rejected extremist positions, opening the door for a more sensible politics.  “Hopefully the Republicans in office will make better partners in the coming years, most urgently in avoiding the so-called fiscal cliff.”

Update: Television networks projected that President Barack Obama
won re-election as U.S. president over Republican Mitt Romney in
Tuesday’s election despite a sluggish economy and high unemployment.

Obama rode signature first-term accomplishments
including the auto industry bailout and the killing of 9/11 terrorist
attack mastermind Osama bin Laden to another four years in the White House.
His victory ensures continued implementation of signature health care
and financial sector reform laws and could bring higher taxes for the
wealthy as part of deficit-cutting efforts.

Update: NBC News projects Obama to win re-election

Update: Fox News projected that Republican Mitt Romney won the swing state of North Carolina‘s 15 electoral votes in Tuesday’s presidential election.

North Carolina went for President Barack Obama in 2008 but was seen as leaning toward Romney this year.

Update: MSNBC projected that Democrat Claire McCaskill won the U.S. Senate seat for Missouri in Tuesday’s election.

McCaskill, a former Missouri state auditor and county prosecutor, is the incumbent and is completing her first term. She defeated Representative Todd Akin, who stirred controversy with his comment that women who are victims of “legitimate rape” rarely get pregnant.

Update: ABC projected that President Barack Obama won Minnesota in Tuesday’s election.

Minnesota
has 10 electoral votes. The state has voted for the Democratic for 10
consecutive presidential elections.

Update: CBS projected that Democrat Elizabeth Warren won the U.S. Senate seat for Massachusetts.

In one the highest profile Senate races in the country,
Warren, a law professor who headed the watchdog panel that oversaw the
government’s financial sector bailout, defeated incumbent Republican
Senator Scott Brown.

Update: Fox News projected that President Barack Obama won the swing state of Wisconsin in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney had hoped his selection of Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan as his running mate would help claim the Midwestern state’s 10 electoral votes. Obama won the state in 2008.

Update: MSNBC projected that President Barack Obama won the swing state of Pennsylvania in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Obama won the state, which has 20 electoral votes, in
2008. Although the state traditionally leans toward Democrats,
Republican Mitt Romney made a concerted effort to woo voters there.

Update: CNN projected that Republicans held control of the U.S. House of Representatives in Tuesday’s election.

Update: – About 60 percent of early voters in the swing state of Ohio chose President Barack Obama,
while more than half of Ohioans voting on Election Day supported
Republican challenger Mitt Romney, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos
exit poll.

Ohio is among a handful of states that could swing to either candidate in Tuesday’s presidential election.

CNN projected that Republican Mitt Romney won Kentucky in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Kentucky has eight electoral votes and was considered to be a likely Romney victory.
