Patrick Leach: Son of ‘Barney’ creator charged with attempted murder
Barney the friendly Dinosaur teaches children manners, etiquette and how to be good people.
What happens, though, when the son of ‘Barney and Friends’ creator doesn’t register those lessons?
According to TMZ, 27-year-old Patrick Leach, son of Barney creator Sheryl Leach, has been arrested for allegedly trying to murder a 49-year-old neighbor, Eric Shanks, in Malibu.
Patrick Leach was arrested in Agoura Hills, Calif., for allegedly shooting Shanks in the chest on Jan. 9. It is reported that the victim was treated at UCLA and is expected to make a complete recovery from his wounds.
While Shanks was waiting for an ambulance and law enforcement officials to arrive at the scene, Leach allegedly tried to make a getaway in his black SUV but was tracked down and arrested.
He was booked on a charge of attempted murder but posted the $1 million bail later that same day.
“Look, he comes from big money so he was able to post that kind of bail the same day he was arrested,” Malibu Sherriff’s Station rep Lt. Matthew Squire said to the Malibu Times.
Leach’s mother, the creator of “Barney and Friends,” reportedly lives in Greenwich, Conn.
Barney was created in 1987. New episodes have not been produced since 2009, with the last episode airing in 2012. Reruns of the show continue to air.
