McDonald’s CEO lost 20 pounds, continued to eat company’s food daily

When trying to shed extra pounds, one would think to avoid fast-food chains such as McDonald’s. The company’s CEO did the exact opposite.

At a recent analyst conference, McDonald Corp.’s CEO Don Thompson was asked how the company is adapting amid concerns about obesity.

Thompson, who has been CEO for less than a year, revealed that he lost 20 pounds in the last year by getting his “butt up” and “working out again.”

Despite his new workout regiment, he hasn’t stopped eating McDonald’s “every single day.”

“I think that balance is really important to people,” he said.

Thompson referred to Europeans saying that people on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean walk a lot and that it’s rare to see Europeans who are “very, very heavy.”

Many fast-food companies face criticism as being the driving force behind the high obesity rates.

McDonald’s has introduced healthier options to their menu including chicken wraps, salads and egg white breakfast sandwiches.

Coca-Cola Co., for example, recently started a campaign promoting its lower-calorie drinks and the importance of exercise, reports the Washington Post.

Despite the healthier options on the McDonald’s menu, Thompson said during his talk that salads make up just 2 to 3 percent of sales.
