Chicago radio tweets rape joke during Stanley Cup game
I don’t know much about hockey, but I can tell it’s a violent sport. Despite its violence, no matter how hard one player slams on to another, a rape joke will never be appropriate.
Last night, during the Bruins vs. Blackhawks showdown, Chicago radio station Q101 tweeted the phrase “Raped basically” to describe the game. The Boston Bruins beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup. The Bruins now lead the series 2-1.
At first the radio station did not apologize for the tweet, which has now been deleted. One fan that called them out for the inappropriate use of ‘rape’ was told to “move on” and explaining that they were referring to “a bruin man handling a Blackhawk against his will.”
After the head the Q101 got on Twitter, they apologized.
“We included a word in our tweets this evening during the game that offended some ppl. That was NOT intended. Pls accept our apology,” read one of the tweets.
“It was removed but we realize words matter & truly apologize for any offense or anger it may have caused,” read another.
When will people learn that rape jokes are not funny?
