Zynga files lawsuit against Bang With Friends

Zynga, the company behind smart phone games such as Draw Something and Words With Friends, is taking the sex app Bang With Friends to court for trademark infringement, according to Bloomberg.

It’s no secret that Zynga has had some major financial troubles in the last several months. In June, the company let go 520 staff members – about 18 percent of its workforce.

The argument in the lawsuit is that Zynga has ownership of software titled “….With Friends,” therefore Bang With Friends, which is an app offering casual sex, is infringing on that copyright.

According to Valley Wag, Zynga has a long history of ripping off names from other companies.

Bang With Friends hasn’t commented to Bloomberg, but the company’s founder, Colin Hodge, sent an email saying the following: “We heard through media reports that Zynga has filed a trademark infringement claim with respect to the ‘with friends’ part of our name. As a technology company, we take intellectual property seriously and will evaluate the case in detail once we receive a copy. Regardless, we continue to be focused on making our users happy, so that they can help each other be happy.”
