Documents reveal JonBenét Ramsey’s parents indicted in 1999
Unsealed documents in the brutal murder of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey’s reveal her parents were indicted on charges of child abuse resulting in death in 1999, according to the Denver Post.A grand jury suggested the charges against John and Patsy Ramsey, who died in 2006, the documents released Friday state. The indictment said the Ramseys “did unlawfully, knowingly, recklessly and feloniously permit a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation which posed a threat of injury to the child’s life or health, which resulted in the death of JonBenét Ramsey, a child under the age of sixteen.” JonBenét’s body was found in the basement of her family’s Colorado home on Christmas night in 1996, strangled with a skull fracture.
Former District Attorney Alex Hunter never signed the document and the Ramseys were never prosecuted They maintained their innocence throughout the investigation. In 2008, the Boulder district attorney publicly apologized to the Ramseys and publicly exonerated them after DNA technology become available, saying an unknown male was the killer.
The documents were released Friday in response to a lawsuit by Boulder Daily Camera reporter Charlie Brennan and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
